In my work I am primarily focused on the overlap of synthetic and organic structures. In doing so, I explore themes such as power, control, and the relationship between humans and nature, particularly in the context of white supremacy, patriarchy, and their impacts on society and the environment.
My sculptures are based on the appearance of modern high-rise buildings with mirrored panes, which melt, bend and break up into complex layers. The reflective substance of the outer facade continues within the structure, revealing the supporting inner framework, while parts of the substance take on forms inspired by eroded rock formations protruding from the remnants of the rigid pattern. The structure dissolves. What was previously considered a neoliberal symbol of power is transformed into a new indeterminate form.
The videos explore the self-destructive contradictions in which the ideology of white supremacist patriarchy is entangled. They critique these notions by highlighting their futility and paradoxical nature, emphasizing the desire for control over the uncontrollable. Utilizing images of cities, architectural design, and the interaction between human and non-human elements, they explore how complex systems function and how attempts to simplify them for domination lead to destructive outcomes. Through references to human neural networks and consciousness, the works examine the boundaries of the self and the question of free will in a complexly interconnected world.
By creating such narratives, my work serves as an inner resistance against the racism I have experienced.
